I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to

You

acknowledge the receipt of your letter No 35771

of the 12th instant, enclosing a copy of a despatch

from the Governor of Hongkong respecting the German

stated-sided businesses in that Colony.

Sir E. Grey would propose, if the Secretary of

State for the Colonies sees no objection, to communi-

cate a copy of this despatch confidentially to the

China Association, who are interested in this ques-

tion.
